WORLD CUP! + Le Mile End s'articule at Park Jeanne-Mance

12:30pm discussion between arkadi lavoie lachapelle and Amber Berson on the soccer field at Jeanne-Mance Park

Part-artist talk, part-performative and audience driven soccer game, the activity will begin by collective stretching, some soccer using anarchist soccer-league guidelines, followed by an artist talk led by arkadi lavoie lachapelle.

2:15pm Run for the Future by Cecilia Bracmort: group run for the cause, from Jeanne-Mance Park to articule

The movement of female bodies in urban spaces is still yet surprising or amusing, in particule in running. If we attract such attention by running in public spaces, then why not use it to spread messages or perform actions for a better future? Based on her observations, the artist will organize two running race-performances to invite the public to think - in a playful way - about our society and its problems.

Followed by Football, Social Movements, and Art: a discussion between Degane Sougal and Sheena Hoszko at articule at 3:00pm

Curated by Amber BersonWORLD CUP! encourages citizens to engage critically and playfully with the game of soccer and acts as a vehicle for discussions about sports, community, patriotism and national identity. The exhibition features the works of Onyeka Igwe (single-channel video), Sheena Hoszko (stained glass), arkadi lavoie lachapelle (durational performance/installation), and Null Ace (video game/installation). Held concurrently with the 2018 World Cup games (June 14 - July 15, in Russia), WORLD CUP! will also host a series of artist talks during participatory soccer matches.

Le Mile End s’articule is a summer outdoor community arts festival, revolving this year around the theme of games, play, and sport! With the support of the Arrondissement du Plateau- Mont-Royal, this summer’s edition provides a schedule of activities over six weeks, and includes festivities in articule’s alley, in the courtyard of the Collège Français on Fairmount Avenue, and in local parks of Mile End. Playing with the concurrent exhibition at articule, WORLD CUP!, curated by Amber Berson, the festival presents creative and critical responses to the world of games and sport at the intersections of art and performance. Kicking around are concepts such as: competition, anthems, nationalism, play, the material culture of sports (including uniforms, costumes, and equipment), interactivity, the gender pay gap, team and fan dynamics, training, athleticism, collective consciousness, critical sports studies, and more! Le Mile End s’articule is committed to creative reuse and the reduction of waste in artistic practices, and aims to promote environmentally-friendly approaches through community involvement in our shared streets and parks.

Born in 1989, arkadi lavoie lachapelle is influenced by her years as a AAA soccer player, the collective energy of the 2012 student movement, the complexity of intersectional feminism, and a deep spiritual experience. Art Action and collaborates with Journée sans culture.
