Salon Littéraire
Salon Littéraire  |  06/20/2019 - 18:00

It is with great pleasure that articule invites you to the the litterary salon of Ronald Rose-Antoinette’s Research Residency on Thursday, June 20.

"Winding through the entrails of the conch shell, the maze of the mangrove, a poetics of the elsewhere slanders the authorial voice. The figure of the One stutters with the many. Indefinite. Aerial. Afloat. Who spoke?

This Salon Littéraire hopes to powder a smooth but brilliant atmosphere where everyone is responsible for the spiritual welfare of no one, where reading and listening to each other are radicalized as breath, air or wholly spirit. We meet. We drink. We smoke. We co-host our souls.

We play songs to each other, read poetry to each other, weave a palimpsest of our unfinished dissertations and immigration forms – collage, bricolage. We tinker some more under (intimately)...

arrow_rightArtist Talk & Meal Shellie Zhang
05/04/2018 - 19:00

Artist Talk & Meal Shellie Zhang as part of MONTRÉAL MONOCHROME VI: SANCTUARY CITY? free Shellie Zhang is interested in flushing out the realm of possibilities that food can offer for reclaiming culture and space, and resisting white supremacy. She will present her research process on Accent, a three-part project that examines the history of MSG from before it came to the western world, to its antagonization and now subsequent revival. She will use MSG as a metaphor in reflecting on who the authority voices behind ‘ethnic’ foods are and how she sees hope in...  - Montréal Monochrome VI: Sanctuary City? | Discussion and Workshops

Q+A Naghmeh Sharifi as part of MONTRÉAL MONOCHROME VI: SANCTUARY CITY? free In this series of ink drawings complemented by sculptural elements, I explore themes of transient identities and the psychology of the body both within and as a lived space / geography. Naghmeh Sharifi is an Iranian/Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal. She holds a BA in visual arts and one in psychology from the University of British Columbia. Since 2006, her work has been exhibited in Tehran, Berlin, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Toronto and Skopje. 05/04/2018 - 15:00

Letter Writing with EMILIA-AMALIA Zinnia Naqvi (on behalf of Emilia-Amalia collective) Letter writing workshop free Letter writing has always been a political act: whether affirming admiration for an artist or activist, providing support to friends and colleagues, collectively voicing dissent and demanding change, or responding to world events in the editorial pages, the letter is a form that lends itself to feminist strategies of protest, collaboration, knowledge-sharing and world-building. For this session, as part of Montreal Monochrome VI, we would like to consider letter...  - Montréal Monochrome VI: Sanctuary City? | Discussion and Workshops

arrow_rightBirds Crossing Borders (Khadija Baker )
05/03/2018 - 20:00

Birds Crossing Borders Khadija Baker Interactive presentation free For refugees and people who seek safety, borders are critical as they are essential to access this feeling. Safety will then shift according to the lived experiences of the past place, especially ones that are violent, and especially for those who have lived it. Borders are less relevant not because they are crossed but because the place is not at the center anymore: it is access to society, and to connect, which allow feelings of certainty that usually come with feelings of belonging. A live performance to tell...  - Montréal Monochrome VI: Sanctuary City? | Discussion and Workshops

arrow_rightBlack Radical Imagination
04/20/2018 - 19:00

7 pm - Screening followed by a discussion with Jheanelle Brown and Kamau Wainaina. Black Radical Imagination is a film showcase programmed by Jheanelle Brown and Darol Olu Kae, and is originally co-founded by Erin Christovale and Amir George. Black Radical Imagination stems from a series of discussions around the boundaries and limitations that are historically given to people of color. The filmmakers and artists in this year's program unflinchingly contend with Black suffering, resist spectacle and render traumatic histories, both personal and collective, without reinforcing...  - Black Radical Imagination | Special projects

arrow_rightGelare Khoshgozaran
04/19/2018 - 19:00

DEAVANAH/دیـــــــــــــــوانـــه remembers an event that occurred in the past, in one language, as it unfolds in the present, in another. The two are only ever consolidated in the state of lunacy, while the deav (demon) in deavanah (lunatic) attests to the right of the alien to bestiality. Gelare Khoshgozaran is an interdisciplinary artist and writer working across video-installation, performance and writing. Born and raised in Tehran and living in Los Angeles, she envisions the city as an imaginary space between asylum as 'the protection granted to a political refugee' and 'a...  - Gelare Khoshgozaran | Special projects
