In North America, having perfect white teeth is about more than just health; it is often an indicator into an individual’s social status and personal background. In the 1800s, poor people would sell their teeth to the rich, whose own had rotted away from the consumption of sweets that the poor could not afford. In present day, the “Hollywood smile” has become a status symbol of privilege. Poor oral health isn’t only a physical risk: it threatens education and job prospects, and thus, social mobility. Presented under the...

KEYNOTE PANEL: What we long for and where we belong // Ce qui nous appartient et ce qui nous retient

**THIS PANEL IS OPEN TO ALL.**

How do we belong, as QTBIPOCs, when our being is so intertwined with longing? How do we envision a present and a future for ourselves when we feel estranged from traditions of our ancestors? How do we draw inspiration from queer and/or trans figures from our ancestries and cultures, when our lineage has broken and we feel exiled from our own sense of self?

As...

All ages welcome   Consistency, which swirls in refrain, writes tunes that play on other radios. To pass flavour onto this free and indivisible life you must allow yourself to be swept away, in ashes and in sweat, by the levity of someone something kind of. Come get the playlist going! Ronald Rose-Antoinette invites you to bring your song suggestion(s) for a salon of sharing. All ages welcome. Tentatively titled re: leaning theory, not in the middle, Ronald Rose-Antoinette’s project will study the concerto of exile, inseparability, longing and queerness via the...  - Research Residency for Curators of Colour and/or Indigenous Curators | Special projects

Doors: 6:30 pm Show: 7pm Come gather with us for Magic Lantern's seventh run where 19 artists with the audience witness together unedited, unrevealed work that neither the public nor the artists have seen before. Magic Lantern is a one-night only event that plays on old kindred gatherings around the slide projector. This past spring participants shot a roll of slide film and submitted their rolls, unprocessed. Developing and mounting them we reveal the photos for the first time, night of. Vulnerability is thus celebrated in a multitude of ways, where everyone confronts...  - Magic Lantern VII | Special projects

08/22/2019 - 18:00

articule has the pleasure of inviting you to an artist talk with participative sewing activities on August 22, 6pm, as part of Angela Marsh's artist research residency. All ages welcome.   La Friche, Mile-End is an evolution of Marsh’s ongoing artistic investigation into our urban wild spaces, which entails the creation of a new “tapestry”, an artistic weed-seed bank, for which small wild plant and small human artefact fragments are collected from local urban abandoned lots and hand-sewn individually into the compartments of recuperated bubble wrap. Visitors...  - Special projects

arrow_rightFinissage: Sign Here for Delivery
08/08/2019 - 17:00 to 19:00

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the finissage of the window exhibition Sign Here for Delivery, by Maeve Doyle + Hannah Materne, Thursday August 8, 5@7.  Sign Here for Delivery is an installation containing a group of richly detailed, abstract art objects atop a palette. Wrapped for delivery, the load is stuck with ‘official’ stickers, and 'sign here' papers appear on the vitrine window. The objects fly off, are too loosely bound, and lay crushed beneath the palette, defying the confines of the wrap. Delivery speaks to the inherent tension...  - Window exhibition: Sign Here for Delivery | Exhibitions

It is with great pleasure that articule invites you to the the litterary salon of Ronald Rose-Antoinette’s Research Residency on Thursday, June 20. Afloat. Who spoke? This Salon Littéraire hopes to powder a smooth but brilliant atmosphere where everyone is responsible for the spiritual welfare of no one, where reading and listening to each other are radicalized as breath,...  - Research Residency for Curators of Colour and/or Indigenous Curators | Special projects
