articule Members’ Show 2018

Mirror mirror, tell me...

Who is articule? Over the past few years, the members of articule have been reflecting on the practice of art-making as well as on the practice of self-reflection in the context of marginalisation. Discussions on the concept of community, safe spaces, and on self-awareness are necessary for such types of reflection.

In the spirit of initiating an exercise of collective discussion, the theme of articule's 2018 Members' Exhibition will focus on self-reflection as well as a reflection of the others: the members of articule, the community of artists with various practices, and the free agents of the universe… Who are they? What are we? To reach this reflection, the centre’s yearly exhibition is offering its members the opportunity to present an...

Gelare Khoshgozaran
Gelare Khoshgozaran  |  04/19/2018 - 19:00

DEAVANAH/دیـــــــــــــــوانـــه remembers an event that occurred in the past, in one language, as it unfolds in the present, in another. The two are only ever consolidated in the state of lunacy, while the deav (demon) in deavanah (lunatic) attests to the right of the alien to bestiality.

Gelare Khoshgozaran is an interdisciplinary artist and writer working across video-installation, performance and writing. Born and raised in Tehran and living in Los Angeles, she envisions the city as an imaginary space between asylum as 'the protection granted to a political refugee' and 'a mental institution.' Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at the Queens Museum of Art, Museo Ex-Teresa Arte Actual, Malmö Konsthall, LAXART, Human Resources, and Interstate Projects, among others. Gelare was the...

arrow_rightVernissage Marigold Santos
10/18/2013 - 19:00

In her work, Marigold Santos explores the ways In which ideas of self can become multiple, fragmented, and dislocated, and then reinvented and created through a reflection of what is considered home. Reoccurring within her visual vocabulary is the adoption of the Asuang, a feared and vile mythological creature of Filipino folklore that possesses an inherent multiple self; both vampire and witch viscera-sucker, and who also has the ability to physically fragment, specifically, self-segmenting at the waist. The Asuang represents a body that is in process, and in its plurality can be faced with...  - COVEN RING
